What is a vocoder?
A vocoder splits a voice into frequency bands, measures how loud each band is over time, and uses those levels to shape another sound, often a synthesizer. The result is the classic talking-robot or singing-synth effect.
Is Starsky Sound Vocoder free?
Yes. You can use Starsky Sound Vocoder at no cost, with no account. Sounds you create and export are yours to use in personal and commercial projects without royalties or attribution.
Does Starsky Sound Vocoder work offline?
Yes. Starsky Sound Vocoder is an installable web app. After the first visit it keeps working with no internet connection, and you can install it to your home screen or desktop.
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. All recording and processing happens on your device. Sounds you keep in "My sounds" are stored privately in your browser and are never sent to a server.
Which audio files can I load and save?
You can load WAV, MP3, OGG, M4A, FLAC, AAC and WebM audio, or record with your microphone. Finished sounds are saved as uncompressed 16, 24 or 32-bit WAV files that open in any audio app.
